The first Symfony meetup hosted by Sensio Labs UK was held last night, and everything went great! The first talk was by our friends at MyBuilder.com Ryan Notz (CEO) and Gavin Love (CTO). Ryan first talked about how important it is to get buy-in from product owners (i.e. the Boss) and how to make sure technology is used properly to meet business goals.
He then moved on to how Symfony has helped them meet their challenges and how the migration to Symfony2 was a great move for them. Gavin then spoke about the technical challenges they are facing and how Richard Miller and Jakub Zalas are helping them with those challenges by reaching really elegant solutions to tough problems.
After a break to clear the air and get refreshed we went on to fantastic talk from Javier López about composer and all the wonderful ways it can be used to retreive external dependancies to include in your project. After starting with basic composer.json compostion he went on to speak about more advanced usage and finally finished with “5 excuses for not using composer and how they’re not valid”. The talk was very well received, as was the beer and the pizza. We’re going to need a bigger room.
